South Green Road

South Green Road

Please create well-lit additional space for our growing family.

Propose a roof extension with provision for an additional bedroom with ensuite wet/shower room facing the rear garden.

Create an extension to the rear of the property that is light and airy. Create a kitchen and living space which engages with the mature garden.

No.7 South Green Road is mid-terrace property with an East-West orientation. Mature gardens can be found to the rear. The main façade faces Corpus Christi & St Catharine’s College Sports Fields and is immediately adjacent to South Green Road, which is a private access road.

The neighbouring properties are Victorian brick built terrace houses all with 22 metre / 72 foot mature rear gardens. The rear garden of no.7 faces the mature gardens providing an attractive vista towards a number of mature trees in the rear gardens of Millington Lane.

The proposed house refurbishment and extensions for our Client are designed for modern living.

The Client brief demands well-lit additional space for their growing family. The proposed rear extension provides an additional kitchen and living space facing the rear garden.

In order to minimise the impact of the proposed built form on the neighbouring properties, the rear ground and roof extensions have been conceived with continuous reference to the sun path.

The roof form at the boundary with no.8 is deliberately raked back to replicate the shading effect of a conventional duo-pitch extension, similar to that at no.3 South Green Road.

A simple palate of materials is proposed for the works: reclaimed existing bricks, structural glazing, lead and white powder coated aluminium windows, all of which sit sympathetically with the existing facades. The proposed roof is a grey polymer membrane roof punctuated with glass rooflights to allow daylighting to the heart of the rear built form.

The rear extension roof form is deliberately brought to a fine rounded edge to lessen its visual impact when viewed from the garden while maximise daylighting and reducing glare once inside. The extent of the roof respects the building line of other extended properties along the terrace.

The simple form of the proposed roof extension provides practical usable space which affords views towards a beautiful array of mature trees and sky.
